EP 77: HOW COLETTE SCHNABEL HELPS WOMEN RECLAIM THEIR HEALTH AND INTUITION

EP 77: HOW COLETTE SCHNABEL HELPS WOMEN RECLAIM THEIR HEALTH AND INTUITION

Women are often told their symptoms are normal, stress-related, or simply something they have to live with. Colette Schnabel is challenging that idea. In Cannes, Melissa sits down with the casting director of She Healed to talk about women’s health, chronic pain, anxiety, hormones, and the importance of becoming your own health advocate.

They explore nervous system regulation, trauma, gut health, environmental factors, and simple daily practices that can support better health. Colette also shares why understanding women’s health matters for the entire family, including the men who want to better support the women they love.

From Dismissal To Self Advocacy

today.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, well, I had the wonderful opportunity of actually being the casting director for SHIELD. And so that is what really brought me to be part of this experience today. Um, but I've been in the longevity space now for about seven years, and I came to it more so in need for myself. I wasn't well. I, you know, always had an inner knowing of trusting myself, my intuition, and doing things in a different capacity in a different way than traditional medical systems. I felt that um some of I wasn't supported, I would say. Or like when I went in and felt like I had some issues, you know, they would just dismiss me, right? And um which many women go through. I know I have as well. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that as a woman, or like even like initially started I when I was pregnant with my son. Um so you know, when you're a vulnerable first-time mom and you feel like that person is supposed to be your advocate, you know, who's supposed to be there in supporting of you. And the doctors basically kind of like laughed at me, so I I wanted to do hypnobirthing. I was like, I'm gonna do hypnobirthing, I'm gonna have a pain-free birth, and she's like, Yeah, people try that, that doesn't work. And I was like, Well, this is not working for me anymore. And so I'm like, I'm gonna go find someone who is gonna advocate for me who will support me in this. And so it was actually at that moment that I was like, if this person is not gonna support me in my vision of the life I'm wanting to create into the world, then I need to find my own way, my own path. And so I I went down the holistic route, found a birth center, and had the most beautiful, pain-free water birth ever. And it kind of just everything spiraled from there of you know, continuing to trust my intuition, continuing to find alternative resources and ways to support myself, my nervous system, and to raise my children in a different way than normal families do in a standard American lifestyle.

SPEAKER_01

And it's hard to trust, right? Because, like you said, same with me, you're gonna be pushed back a lot of the times and say, well, that might not be safe. And of course, when you're pregnant, your first pregnancy, you kind of like you give away your power in trusting. Because I also wanted a water birth, I wanted a whole experience as well. But last minute everyone got afraid because my kids were frank breached. Oh, yeah. And they weren't sure. So they said, no, we gotta do emergency C-section, and it was just opposite of all my dreams. And that had its own spiral after that, you know, from not doing having a vaginal birth and what happens for the gut for the baby and the nervous system and the ripple effect from that that I didn't know that nobody taught me until I knew now. So I love that you're teaching people now to trust that as a woman and really advocate it because you will get pushed back and you'll give away that power. But how would you tell women to just trust it?

SPEAKER_00

I think that's a really good question, you know. I mean, obviously doing your personal research, right? I I mean, there's plenty of experts out there where you'll see that in the Shield documentary of people that you can use as resources. But I mean, for me, I I don't want to be the sheep in the herd, right? I I'm going to always do my own research, what I can find the best that will be supportive, you know, and and make proper judgments of of what's going to be best for my family, because there might be some things that, you know, maybe I do stay in a traditional medical sense to support that. But I mean it's like another example of also when you're a new mom and you have to find your baby's pediatrician, right? So I I knew I'm like, okay, I didn't want to do the vaccine straight at birth. Like, I like that's not what I want straight away. And that was also another difficult thing to find a pediatrician that would support you in that capacity. So I feel that again, just not being bullied into a system that you don't feel aligned with, because there are people that are out there that will advocate for you, that will support you in that way. And so for me, it was always just a spiral and becoming this deep sponge of knowledge, and that's why I love this industry so much, right? Because you have people that think outside the box, you have people that are breaking away from the norm and you know, setting the bar for what it truly can be. And so I think that that's made me fall in love with biohacking and longevity and you know, teaching moms and women and and future families of like how you can do it differently.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yeah, I love that. That's how I got into it as well, because I get being pushed back with different symptoms and or being told, well, the for example, like the heavy bleeding of a period and all the symptoms coming along with it in my mid-30s, and gynecologists saying, Well, just take 800 milligrams of ibuprofen. I was like, Well, that that doesn't seem to really solve the root cause. So I love with She Healed that you guys are showcasing all these experts. How many experts were we're on?

SPEAKER_00

We had over 80 experts. Wow. In this four-part docuseries that they put together.

SPEAKER_01

So it's much easier to find now if you're kind of in this circle, right? And that's why I'm so honored to be in this circle because that's what I wanted to advocate with my book, The Get God Connection. That's what it was. Is it starting to empower yourself for your inner guidance, but also what are the resources out there for biohacking and that you can because we I always say we live in a bit of a toxic world, yeah, and our bodies we haven't progressed to sustain it. So we do need some of these protocols along the way to help us sustain living in this toxic world, but uh also in the lens of a nervous system regulation

When Anxiety Is Not The Root

SPEAKER_01

being number one. Always say to people, work on your nervous system first before any other protocol, yeah, right? To learn these important tools. And tell me some of your nervous system tools that you do for that. I love that.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, because I I and I and I love that that is a big part of your mission because you know, when the body is not in a beautiful cohesive state, it can't function, it can't communicate the right way. And that's really what happened why I got into the actual biohacking part of it. So three years after I um had my daughter, I started to develop like chronic pain and debilitating anxiety, like to the point I couldn't be in a setting like this, you know, or the fact I was like getting adjusted twice a week. I was trying all these different things, I was having these phantom feelings within my body, and they were ultimately the I I would take myself to the ER. I'm like, there's something wrong, you know, after thousands of dollars spent, they're just like, no, it's just anxiety, you know, makes you feel crazy as a woman when you know there's something going on. And so what happened is I had a a a wonderful friend and mentor who knew a bit about my childhood, and she asked me, she's like, Do I know how traumas manifest in the body? You know, unprocessed emotions and all of that. I was like, I don't know what you're talking about. You know, I didn't I didn't understand like the energy of like what's happening inside your cells, and you know, if there's blockages. And so she took her time to educate me. And so then I went down another rabbit hole. And so when I found out that, you know, unpro unprocessed trauma that I had from childhood, that could be the reason that I had this blockage with inside my body and this chronic pain, um, immediately it started to go away. Like once I started to implement different tools, frequency medicine and breath work, and you know, so it's for me the the best ways that I love to regulate my nervous system, first and foremost, I'm a huge, huge advocate for hydrogen water. Um, and so the hydrogen itself really goes in and helps balance um any of the bad free radicals within the body. So it's allowing more communication, cellular communication happening, uh it allows things to fire off more. Uh breath work is a big, big thing for me. And also, I mean, I think working out, and I used to work out heavy, like big hit, and I don't do that anymore. I I like to really slow down. I love my Pilates and I love going slow and working out really slow with intention within my body now. And I think that um really just taking time to do things and appreciate life in a slower capacity because we live in such a fast-paced world, we're constantly in moments of stress, you know, we have all this external things that are affecting us as well. So, as women, we have to definitely take time to slow down.

SPEAKER_01

Kind of like reprogram ourselves, right? Because we've been programmed since a little girl that the more we check the box, the more we achieve, you know, the we get rewarded. Yeah, yeah. It's like a reprogramming. I love actually, I love hydrogen. Actually, yesterday because I knew all the travels that I've had within a week. I've been to Texas to speak at a dental conference, then I had a wedding, then I was coming here for a quick turnaround. So I had did all my biohacking, and one of the things last night I had a hydrogen bath, yeah, and just to kind of the reset, and I had PMF and red light, did some bread worth because it's so important on a daily basis. My kids now drink hydrogen water, and my next step is getting maybe a you know a house home water system, but because there is so many benefits.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I mean I think that because you're doing it with your kids because you know, anyone can have the hydrogen and there is no contraindication. So it's like one if you have like SIBO, but otherwise, anyone and everyone can have it, and it's so beneficial to their bodies. Um, you know, your body is supposed to be making ample amount of hydrogen, but we don't anymore. The hydrogen used to be um abundant in the world, but man has come in and done man things, and so we don't have access to it. So now implementing that, I think it's for me that's one of the biggest foundations, and it's one of the easiest ones I think that women can potentially do for their nervous system.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think that's fantastic. And if we're advocating for women, since we're here for She Heal, I think having the first step of watching this documentary and becoming inspired because I think we live in a world where they've always treated us just like men, right? And now I think we're rising and there's more information, and uh we're seeing our young girls affected. I see it with my 12-year-old girl, you know, the ages where they get their period and what's affecting them, and they're not really taught of how what their body should feel like. Their their period shouldn't be painful and and not normalizing all that. So it starts with changing that for generations. So I love women now that are speaking up and advocating for others. For me, I I see moms that are struggling and they're tired and they're go, go, go, and they're the last ones to give back to themselves most of the time. And they're worn down. And I one of the best advice for me was to take care of myself first, and my kids will co-regulate with me when we were grieving, and and I think that was truly the best advice. And I I tell moms not to feel the guilt anymore when they take that time for themselves and get away, and kids are gonna be okay, and it'll build their resilience when you're away.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh, I like goosebumps because I totally I believe all of this so much too, and that's what I do as a mom because you can't pour back in, you know, and if your cup's not full. And so, oh, I love that that is a very important piece, and and it it does show what our girls or our sons are capable of too, and it's I think it's the different way that we get to raise our kids in today's world. I wanted to say something that you're talking about though, with the the menstrual cycles of our of our young girls, and I've helped a lot of women because I know you talk about the gut. Yes, and so you know, one thing that I like to really talk about is you know how to safely remove like the glyphosate from our bodies, right? Because glyphosate actually does so much to damage to our cells, to our gut lining, and that plays a huge effect in the menstrual cycles. And so once I started to be conscious of you know the consumption of glyphosate and removing it from my body, that really um reduced the any like uh onset of PMS, cramping, and I've seen many other women support this too. And so for our young girls, you know, it's like my daughter, when she was in school, they're homeschooled now, she was sneaking the free breakfast at school, right? We had breakfast at home, but she goes and sneaks it, and she was coming home every night and she couldn't eat. She's like, My tummy hurts, my tummy hurts, and I couldn't understand why. And then finding out she was eating, you know, whatever garbage they serve at free breakfast at school.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, usually it's microwave, you know, uh everything microwave and do plastic

Simple Nervous System Reset Tools

SPEAKER_01

wraps.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know, and so I think that you know, for pant families to take the initiative of, you know, again, s going slow with what you're feeding your kids, not everything can be fast, not everything, you know, we can't have the franken foods, right? You know, and when you do that, you start to see a huge shift because if you look at the children nowadays, right? The boys are having breasts because there's so much in them messing with his with their hormones within their bodies, right? And so I I think it it's important as families to have that responsibility of you know making sure that their bodies have what it needs to move to that next step as they develop further.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, nutrition, number one, right? Even though sometimes it seems a lot to make the lunches, what are you gonna make and what are they gonna eat, but getting used to the healthy eating because for brain health, for them concentrating to have the cellular, cellular energy for them, I see it very much too. And sometimes I might be harsh, but sometimes I see children and I'm like, it's almost abuse, is the way I see it. Yeah, neglect, neglect, you know, because I see these poor kids that are gonna be so close to diabetic. Yeah. And and I'm like, oh my gosh, you know, if if they it I definitely see it that you should take it upon yourself to make the meals, and I know, yes, they might be more expensive in the long run. You're gonna pave with medication and health issues for your children. And so this should be you know highest priority for them, leading, teaching them, and the baby steps, you know, might be overwhelming at first, but there's plenty of resources, you know, from YouTube and recipes and chat GPT, get chat GPT to help you out, you know.

SPEAKER_00

So you know I've I do like the whole kitchen sink thing with my chat GPT. This is what I have in my fridge, help me create something.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

And it's so quick and easy. I'm like, I got 20 minutes, what can I make for my family? This is what I have, bing bing bing. And it like puts it together. It's so simple.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love that. You should do that for lunches. I'm always wondering for new ideas. Okay, that's a fantastic idea.

SPEAKER_00

And and I as from a young age, because my kids have been part of this longevity space from the very beginning, you know, it's why I started it. Like, I always I over-explain things to my kids, you know, and not and I and I do it in a way so they understand why. It's like, for example, we had um, I did some yellow roast beets the other week. And my and I said, you know, there's red beets. And I and I started to explain like why it's what's good for, it's good for the heart. We think of red, what's what's our like what's red in our body. So I talk about things in that way. But then my daughter was more excited about going to the bathroom after a beat. She's like, she woke up, mom, it was not red like you said it was going to be. Half a day later. How are you gonna get them excited? You know, I mean, like it's I know that's so silly, but it's like, you know, like making the food fun, making them appreciate these things and putting them in the kitchen with you. Like, I love it.

SPEAKER_01

It's how important to teach them, yeah, to enjoy the cooking and make them part of making their lunches and make sure there's a protein, there's the fats, the healthy fats. What are healthy fats? I know my son has been really good about we try, you know, when we go out asking if there's seed oils or dyes in in food. And so I one time they uh he was brought to this uh water park, and you know, water parks you're only gonna have really unhealthy food, and he goes out to the concession and he asks the little lady working there, does this have seed oil? They're like, what? And she was like, What is that? So it is nice to start teaching them the language and the why and what it does. And I what I love most is that now when they're at a birthday or somewhere else and they decide to eat a food that you know normally we we wouldn't right away if they get a headache, a stomach ache, I said, Well, now you know you've become aware, and that's kind of becomes your own personal choice now. And even for us as adults, you know, of course I'm not always super clean, you know, but I try to because I do know I feel my best and and I pay for it in the long run, but start noticing what uh foods are are doing, start noticing what your body is speaking, is kind of what I always say. I said each symptom, you know, I have so many people come up, like, oh, all of a sudden I this is coming out, and um my stomach or I've got these headaches. Well, that's your body, it's trying to say something to you, and so pause enough to understand why. You know, and a lot of times I feel they don't want to see the why. They're kind of avoiding the truth, yeah, and that's and then oftentimes because the truth, if their nervous system is not regulated, they're not ready for that truth, right? So I I say, well, work on slowing down, work on the breath, on these meditation, gratitude, or you know, uh hydrogen, like work on reducing the inflammation in your body, yeah, so then you can start understanding what your body's trying to communicate with you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I love that I just recently started the gratitude journals with my kids. Uh because we started traveling a bit more, and so every night they do it's like a you know three-minute gratitude journal. What was some of their favorite things throughout the day? So again, again, you know, because how like I don't know if you like think when your kids come home from school, what did you learn today? And they're like, Oh wow, you know, they don't remember. And so I feel that when we take that time at night, okay, so what that's like three great things that happen today, and there's like a part where they can like draw pictures too. So they I I notice a big difference when they when they do that too, slowing down and um one of the other things that oh what were you just saying?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I forget, but anyway, but I love that so they do that right at night. So that's so great because I've been trying to work on that with them right before bed because sometimes they actually tell me all the bad things, which is fine, it probably gets it out of their body that happen in throughout the day, but it would be important then because of course how you fall asleep is how it's gonna affect in your morning. So the gratitude journal where they can draw out

Kids Food Choices And Hormones

SPEAKER_01

what they're appreciative, you know, and just to circle back to what you keep in your body, because you know, if they speak just the bad, then that's good. They let it out, it's a way to outland, don't keep it because that's a real thing, you know. I say suppression is the silent killer. Oh, yes, right? Yep, and so I realized that with my first book and my just kind of going back and doing my own healing, just like you, you know, for me, I said, Well, they can't lose another parent, so I'm gonna dive into all the modalities. And I came upon, you know, inner child work, hearts work, energy work, and understanding the science because I'm very much in the science field, so and I love sciences, yeah. So understanding the quantum physics and how it is not woo and how it's impacting us every emotion. A lot of people say, Well, I didn't have a trauma traumatic childhood, you know. But I said, But even if it was just the fall, yeah, or maybe one person saying something to you, it's still in you and it could affect you, like you had anxiety, right? And a lot of people don't understand why this onset of anxiety happened, and then you know, they're put on all these other kind of medications, and I'm not pro or against medication, I'm whatever works, you know. But I'm just saying the root cause often is these stored emotions that stuck with us. One of my dear friends, Xenia, that I'll be hosting retreats with, she is a fascia maneuver and she does all um just to release all the stored energy uh stored emotions because she does also healing from different illnesses and cancers, and a lot of times the root cause was this emotion that was stuck and not allowing the flow of energy through the blockages.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because the body doesn't know the difference, right? You know, it keeps the score, but it doesn't know the difference between whether it was, you know, physical abuse, emotional abuse, you know, or that time you fell. It's all stored the same, but trauma is just trauma. And so and I think that's why I fell in love with frequency medicine is the fact that it everything has this frequency, right? Anything no matter what we do. So whether that's you know, you calm down because you smell a scent, right? Or you actually utilize some sort of technique. technology to communicate with the body and once I once I started to understand that you know it's like my my mom was like how do you know it's real and I'm like I'm like how does the printer get the to to print from our phones you know like how does the key fob work right you know it's uh it's all this frequency so why can't it not communicate to our cells in that way yeah and so I I'm I'm a huge huge fan with frequency medicine and I and I love to see that um it's actually now taking off more in America like it's it's a very common thing here in Europe that they they go and they use these technologies to help with the body with different sorts of machines but now I'm seeing it a lot more in America you know I I I got into the frequency medicine about seven years ago and the community wasn't really quite there yet and now I go to these conferences and I'll see there's a a great um device called the Wave Watch and it's a lot of people I keep seeing an advertisement for that it's great and like you know so they they have all the different types of programs that you can wear and it just send sends frequencies to you all day long. Oh okay and I think another good thing about this is that to show uh is animals because animals you know they communicate via frequency so much more and so if you look at it from that capacity we're the ones that put the blockage inside right if you have that mindset oh that's not going to work for me oh it will take longer to work then right but if you trust you know and like you're open and you receive things communicate better and faster.

SPEAKER_01

Yes yeah you come attract it right yes oh I love that I mean I'm very fascinated by the energy work and the more that I'm doing the work I I'm living it. I mean look at me I'm here how else do you think I'm here because here's here's how I went to the biohacking event and I think I crossed path with Anthony and I didn't know anything about she healed I didn't know about Anthony it was you know I wish I would have but I literally just passed and then I got a DM in my on my phone and got invited here today. And this is I'm living proof that the more you do the work the more you uh yeah work on your energy I say kind of like your field you gotta protect it yeah uh the more then you attract you attract the the your your dreams right to become magnetic when you allow yours yeah when you allow yourself to be open to the universe and you just say yes and you trust yes right even though it's like oh when I said yes to okay 10 podcasts today I've never done that there's a I've been reading the books by Dr.

SPEAKER_00

Tara Swart uh called The Signs and so she brings in all the neuroscience into the woo of like how this manifestation actually does work with the different parts of the brain. Great book and I love that and I think for people who are are just starting to want to like step in to understand how you can do this work right that it's not like it's not pretend like we're here and like look like just like you said we're here it works. It does it really does work and I have a a great friend and I I said because I I had a layover in Lisbon we were at dinner and I was like you should just come with me and so yesterday she was super stressed and she's like she's like I'm just said universe should I be going to Cannes and like she pulled a card and it was like just trust and go you know I love that I always ask for signs too yes I always do and I was like when are you leaving she's like I never book a a return flight she goes I just trust and then I find out what's the next step for me and like to have like to see a woman like that who just fully trusts everything is happening for her in that moment in that time like that is one of the most empowering things to me as a woman and I love to surround myself with other women like that. That's what I want to instill in my daughter instill in my son that you know things you know yes we can have all these external things that are fighting against us but if you just continue to push forward and continue to trust things will work out in the right way.

SPEAKER_01

I love that ISO align I think the last four years that's how I've lived my life like almost the no fear because I knew that's where I need to be and I've done a lot of things that very uncomfortable you know very uncomfortable to the point even okay I remember being called to move to Arizona I was living in Wasilla Alaska because of a gut fit feeling yeah knew nobody there but I went all against the green the the therapist everybody has said don't do anything for at least a year it was the best thing the best thing that everything aligned after that there's schools the house uh finding my publisher writing my book you know everything just kind of aligned so now I've I just dive in you know even starting

Frequency Medicine And Facing Fear

SPEAKER_01

this podcast about a year and a half ago it was just a calling you know and it's it's just you dive in and then be gentle with yourself because even if you dive in you might feel okay I'm not perfect I'm not excellent. I mean if you listen to my first podcast it's but you get learning yeah right and and God truly knew that this would practice public speaking which I know that's what I want to do you know and so I I keep trusting and I'm we're living proof and I'm glad that you said the fear because the frequency of fear is so powerful within the body and it can really put those stops in you.

SPEAKER_00

So you have to just release it right and I I think that that's a big thing that I love to talk to other women about in the community that I help coach and you know it's it's that frequency of fear that can stop you. Oh it's so hard I see it with women because as I would be helping women and I'm like okay they're ready they're open I sit with them and I kind of okay this will be our baby steps first step and then the next day that big fear comes in you know kind of steals away and it's like okay more but do you have you know techniques or anything that somebody that fear keeps showing up and it's strong yeah it's a strong block I mean I know it's bringing more light more love you know maybe more support what would you recommend that somebody is it it's so scary that first step yeah I I would say for me the journaling and writing down my truth my like the world that I see like I like I you have this vision of this life that you want you write it down pen to paper like that is a form of manifestation and if you continue to tell yourself this see this visualize it visualization is a very important piece in it all because you can't just say oh yeah I'm I want to be in the south of France and I want to have a podcast and I want to be on this documentary. No you still have to do work like you still have to put yourself in those uncomfortable places right but you have to like it's a daily practice of showing up for yourself every single day.

Every single day I love that yeah the writing writing I actually tell everybody should write a book and because that was the best thing that I can do writing is a letting go writing is so therapeutic and I have noticed that if I read back to my journals things that I wanted to they're happening and they're happening now. I mean it didn't happen overnight but maybe a year or two yeah I was on that stage on in a dental conference Friday. I mean I wrote that two years ago that's where I'm gonna be you know and there's so much more that I see and I and there is something about manifesting and writing it out in your journal and writing is is beautiful and to teach kids maybe I keep thinking in school we programs we need this for kids to learn these tools. They're having hard feelings instead of these silly timeouts or no lunch detentions or you know where they're not going outside get them to journal get them to write get them to I don't know breathe you know breathe jump up and down get them to run get some energy out I think there's too much stagnation that's true for them.
