I always tell people that if you make that hard decision, if right after it feels peaceful, it's the right way. Don't wait till the whispers are so loud.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, dentistry felt like I was slowly dying. This was giving me lots of energy, and I knew that I could have an even bigger impact by helping people find a better way to understand themselves by knowing their why, how, and what. So imagine now I'm working with hundreds of people every month, helping them find their why, along with being a dentist, along with being a dad, along with all the other things that I was doing, coaching and everything else. And I had a lot on my plate, but what gave me the most energy was helping people find their why.
SPEAKER_02Welcome back to Not Alone with Melissa Sue Methvin. Today's conversation is about something I think so many of us eventually ask ourselves: why am I here? What am I truly meant to do in this lifetime? My guest today, Dr. Gary Sanchez, has an incredible story because his journey actually began in dentistry. Gary built a successful dental practice, but along the way, he found himself searching for something deeper, his why. That journey ultimately led him to create the why.os and the why institute, helping others discover what drives them, how they naturally operate, and what they bring to the world when they're living at their best. And I love this conversation because I believe that when we understand who we are, trust the inner knowing and have the courage to live in alignment with our purpose. Everything begins to change. Now, for me, it's the truly being in divine guidance. We're constantly being guided by our purpose. We we knew our purpose before we came here. And when we are in alignment, everything flows. There's more peace, more vitality. So I'm welcoming Gary here today because this is an important topic. Welcome to Not Alone. I'm so excited to have you here.
SPEAKER_00Well, thanks for having me, Melissa Sue. This is going to be funny. You you know, that intro, you said a word that was really uh maybe even more powerful than what you know what you said. And that was you said, eventually we ask. Because what typically happens is we pick a path. Should I just jump right in? Yes, please do.
SPEAKER_02I know where you're going and I love it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, let's just jump right into this because I want to take everyone in the audience. Uh, I want to take you back to when you were 16, 17, 18 years old, and your parents' friends came over to your house and they asked you that one question that you didn't want them to ask you. Do you remember what that question was?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. What are you gonna do when you grow up?
SPEAKER_00What are you gonna be when you grow up? And you're like, How the heck am I supposed to know? Right? You didn't want them to ask you that question. Um, you've got 17 or 18 years of life experience to be able to choose what you want to do for the next 40 years of your life, right? Now, how the heck are you supposed to do that? And ultimately, though, you have to make a choice. So, either off to college, university, or getting a job. You pick something, you pick a path. Like, what do I want to do? You pick a path and you go, and then you actually get good at that and you start to accumulate things, right? Uh a house, a spouse or two sometimes, a kid or two, a car or two, and you get all this responsibility and overhead in your life. And then maybe one day when you're 40, 45, 50, you wake up and you think, Really? Is this all there is? Is this a path I was supposed to pick? Is this what my life is supposed to be about? And at that time, you realize maybe you picked the wrong what. You chose what you wanted to do, and it was the wrong one. So you go back and you pick a different one, and you get in that same path of picking that path, figuring a making a choice, getting good at it, ending up unfulfilled. Until ultimately one day you stop, which is exactly what you said, and you think, maybe I'm asking the wrong question. Not what is it I want to do, but maybe it's who am I? And you start trying to figure out who you are, because when you know who you are, then you can figure out what it is you actually want to do. And by the time you do that, though, maybe your runway is quite a bit shorter. Maybe you're a little bit older and you don't have as much time to do what you were actually meant to do. And that is what happened to me. That's really my story, right? And that's probably most people's story. Yeah. I I picked dentistry, not because it was this lifelong dream. It's because I didn't know what else to pick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because your dad was a dentist and your brother, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, my dad was a dentist, my brother was a another brother, was a doctor, my uh other brother becomes a dentist and joins us, my other sister's a doctor. We had this medical family, so I was kind of pushed in that direction. And I picked it because I knew the lifestyle and I thought, hey, why not give it a shot? Makes sense for me to do that. It can have a good living and help a lot of people. So that's the direction I went. And um realized at age 49 that that really wasn't I knew all along. I actually knew all along. I think so.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I want to know that. Like, even applying for dental school, did you know? Did you, if you think back, did you know, like, I don't know if this is what I want?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00I didn't even study to take the DAT. You know, I just I knew it was the next day. Let me go see what I can do on this thing. And I actually got good enough. I hadn't even taken organic chem yet.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00I just guessed on all of the all of the answers, and I actually did pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow. So, but in a way, you're kind of hoping maybe not, like you might not get it because that's at that point in my life.
SPEAKER_00I I was really involved in uh racquetball. Racquetball was like the fastest growing sport, kind of like pickleball is now. And um I was really good at that, and that's the direction my I ended up being the world champion in racquetball, and that was kind of the direction my life was going. And I thought it was going to be all about sports or you know, building a club or working in a club or playing, you know, traveling around playing tournaments, which is what I was doing. And um, I didn't really think dentist about dentistry, but I ended up getting in this motorcycle wreck, and I and I had to face the reality that what if I get injured? You know, what's my plan B gonna be? What if this doesn't really pan out? And that's when I decided, well, let me go try dental school.
SPEAKER_02So fear. So again, I like this. So fear creeped in, right? Got an injury, and what if I'm doing what I love, but what if I get injured, right? So we spiral in that. So the fear. So you so because I always try to make a point of like, if we were making a decision for a life out of fear, is there fear-led or is it God-led? Is what I always say, you know?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And and you know, I don't want to make it sound like I didn't enjoy dentistry because I did. I had a great time as a dentist. I got uh went to USC dental school, got out, got very involved in continuing education. The advice that I was given was build a great product and people will come. So I spent the next 20 years reaching the highest levels you could go to in dentistry, studying with the best mentors, going to the best institutes, building the beautiful practice, you know, um ultimately doing really well. Um, but it wasn't really what I was supposed to be doing, and I knew it.
SPEAKER_02And how did that feel? Like when you're saying that, uh, that you you started to feel not fulfilled, even though you kind of enjoyed it. But tell me how did that feel? How did that show up for you in your life where you knew this is not uh this is no longer in alignment or not benefiting you?
SPEAKER_00I enjoyed it when I was improving things, when I was learning things, when I was growing. But ultimately, you kind of get to the point where you've done a half a million of everything, and it's more about the people. And I enjoyed the conversations with the people, but I didn't enjoy the pressure. I didn't enjoy the financial pressure, the time pressure, the dealing with team members, the dealing with staff. I loved being with my patients, I loved helping them, I loved um improving their lives by giving them the life and the smile they always wanted, but I didn't enjoy all the other part. And it just was ultimately more than I wanted. And I couldn't get out, right? I had a wife, the life, the kids, all the stuff. I had them in private school. I knew college was coming. There's just so much pressure. And I'm probably preaching to the choir to your audience because I'm sure they f have felt it or are feeling it or are going to feel it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh, yeah. There's so many of them that are in their uh, you know, their career and they feel stuck, but they're like, oh, it provides for my family right now.
SPEAKER_00I have to do it. That's kind of how I felt. It got it changed from a want to learn it to an ex from an excited to learn it to now I have to do it because I have to provide for all the things that I've got around me, right? Yeah. The things, the choices that I've made. And so um at that point, though, when I started to think about that, my practice wasn't doing that well. It wasn't growing like I thought it would. I had a very specific practice for a specific group of people, and my practice wasn't really growing like I thought it would. And that's when I heard about this whole concept of why. I saw Simon Sinek's TED Talk on Start with Why. This was back in 2009. I read his book multiple times. I watched that TED talk probably 20, 30 times, and I was like, that's what I'm missing. I have a really great what, but I don't know my why. I don't know why I'm doing this. I don't know why somebody would choose me. I don't know how to talk about myself other than the things that I've done. And so I became obsessed with trying to figure out my why. And I couldn't do it. So I just called Simon and I said, hey, can you help me find my why? So he and I spent about eight months together going back through my life looking for clues, trying to figure it out. And I finally figured out my why, which is to find a better way and then share it. To find a better way and share it. That's when my life started to make sense to me. I have a lot of patents and products and inventions, better ways of doing things. And then I share them with the world. So in my practice, we stopped talking about what we do, right? Crowns, bridges, fillings, complete gum care, all that stuff. And we started focusing on why we do what we do. What do we believe? And as we focused on our why instead of our what, that's when my practice really took off. That's when we started attracting all the right people to it. And and we went from just getting by to having abundance. So this is back in 2009. And then every year we did better and better and better. Most fun, most satisfaction, most new patients, most revenue. And it really um really took off. Wow, and it all came from focusing on our why.
SPEAKER_02On our why, why you're doing something. Yeah, finding purpose, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so let me give you an example. I'll give you an example of if I was doing a radio spot on a typical dental practice, it might sound something like we love teeth, we whiten teeth, we do crowns, bridges, fillings, complete gum care. We have the latest technology, we have this beautiful office. Come see us, new patient exam, $17 or whatever it is, right? You could hear this um in Arizona where you are in the radio. Compare that to what we talked about was, you know, um, we believe that life is better when you have great teeth. In fact, you can't really have a good life if you have bad teeth. And I should play this for you. I probably could bring it up and just play the radio spot that changed everything for us, but we focused on what we believe. Um, and that most people are being held back from who they really want to be because of their teeth. Not most people, some people are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And if um, our vision is to help them get their lives back. And so the way we do that is by providing a safe, pain-free experience that alleviates their stress and gives them the life they've always wanted, so they can be who they were meant to be. And that's what we do. So if this sounds like your story, then give us a call. And that brought in all the right people to us, the people that were looking for the we did um sedation dentistry, is really what we did. Right. So somebody would come in, we'd put them to sleep, redo their whole mouth in that one day, and it would be a great experience for them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so they don't have to hear, you know, a lot of people have so much dental anxiety hearing the the noises and the drills. So a lot of them would love to be, yeah, sedated. Much easier to work on, too.
SPEAKER_00Much easier to work on, much less stress, see one patient a day. And um, and so that was a better way to help people get the life they always really wanted that was being held by by the challenges they were having with their teeth. And so that really was the direction of our practice, and and and it really took off, and we were doing very well, but I still knew it was just like a short-term win in a place that really wasn't where I should be. I always felt like I was playing small. I always felt like I was stuck in an office, I always felt like there was something else I should be doing. And it just kept gnawing at me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, how how is that? How's the gnawing? Like, how do you the physically how did you feel that?
SPEAKER_00It got to be where I didn't really want to go to work anymore. I didn't want to go to my office, I didn't care how much money we were making, I didn't care to show up. I just it's apathy, almost like apathy. I just didn't care. And I feel bad for my brother, who was at that time my partner. Because a lot of the he loved being a dentist. His life was to be a dentist. I mean, that's what he was meant to do. Whereas I was doing it, but I knew it wasn't what I should be doing. And it really took its toll on our relationship, it took its toll on my willingness to want to be there and contribute. I still, you know, held up my end of the bargain, but not to the level that he did. And so, and he didn't want me to leave. You know, we we never had an argument in 30 years as a partners, and he didn't want me to leave. He didn't want anybody else. So he was taking more and more on, and I was willing to let him do it.
SPEAKER_02Oh but ultimately I love how you mentioned that because I'm like, oh, he wasn't ready to let go because that he was a fear. Who who do I come in? And that was keeping you there, how do they guilt, but he was taking on more, so to make it easy for you. So people need to recognize that sometimes just because when something's calling you, someone might other people's fears too might keep you stuck.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it's a great way to put it. Yeah, it felt that way, and then the pressure started ratcheting up from there. I'm letting him down, I'm not holding my weight, I could be doing more, but I just didn't care.
SPEAKER_02So then it was kind of breaking a little bit apart your your relationship with your brother.
SPEAKER_00For sure.
SPEAKER_02And what about your home life? Like as far as like marriage, too. Did it have a trickle effect to your home life? For sure.
SPEAKER_00For sure. I just, you know, I wasn't my high-energy self, I wasn't having fun, I was bringing that home. It it it was a struggle, you know, in every way it was a struggle. And um I didn't see a way out. I didn't see how it could change because I, as a dentist, so again, I'm speaking, preaching to the choir. We make really good money, we have a great lifestyle, we've invested a lot of time at this point. I'm you know, 25 years into this. What else are we gonna do that can give us that? Do we want to downsize? Do we want to get rid of all the stuff? Do we want to take our kids out of private school? Do we not want to send them to college? Do we like what are we willing to give back or or give up in order to get away? And that's a really challenging place to be.
SPEAKER_02You kind of create your own kind of prison, like, oh, you make all these excuses. Well, and I won't be able to afford that. I don't really want to downsize and and I like this lifestyle. And so you create all these blockages, but you, you know, but what I see is if you know you're in alignment, you know, money will come uh even more, you know, success as you open up. But did you end up what what was that breaking point you finally made the change? I'm always so curious because it takes courage. It takes immense amount of courage what you did, because I know too many dentists in or any profession that are staying and they feel unfulfilled. But listen to the ripple effect when it starts affecting your loved ones, family division, uh, you know, marriages, children, it just has a ripple effect. So, how important it is to live in true alignment when it's calling you for a change.
SPEAKER_00Which you can't see while you're in the fire, right? You can't see that when you're I mean, you know it, but you don't want to know it. You you see it, but you don't want to see it. So you just deal with it, right? I'm gonna just deal with this in order to not let anybody down. That was probably the biggest thing. How do I not let my team, you know, my spouse down, my kids down, my brother down, my patients down, my team. How do I not let everybody down? Because that's what it feels like. But at that time, I had developed, uh, once I figured out my own why, I figured out a better way to do it, right? My why is to find a better way and share it. So I went back and figured out what Simon was trying to do, and I made it better. So instead of taking six or eight or 10 months to help someone find their why, I could sit down with you in about an hour and help you figure out your why. And for the next seven years, I did that for free for anybody that would let me. And as I did it more and uh over and over and over for thousands of people all over the world on stages, on Skype was a big thing back then. I would pull somebody out of the audience on stage with me and I would discover their why in front of the audience, and then I'd build their messaging, marketing, and branding. And I kind of became addicted to doing this. And I started to notice patterns and trends and similarities. And I figured out that there's only nine different whys. And that was the most important thing I figured out because once I saw there were nine whys, then I could teach other people to do what I was doing. Then I could get more data, and I could help someone figure out their why in about 20 minutes. So if you were in my dental chair waiting to get numb, you were gonna get your why discovered.
unknownI love that.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna get your teeth drilled on right now, but also let's figure out your purpose in life.
SPEAKER_00That's exactly what happened. And I did it for, like I said, thousands of people everywhere I went. If you were sitting next to me on an airplane, you were gonna get your why discovered.
SPEAKER_02I like that because I've been providing you so much like my talent because you just knew how important for people to know their why and realize, okay, and find find the courage to find it. And then then you have to make the the move, right? You gotta kind of embody that why and make the changes. I love that. And what are the nine? What are the nine that you said that's really fascinating to me that there is you figured out there's nine, nine whys generally.
SPEAKER_00And you know how that happened, by the way, is I was working with this big group of attorneys in Florida. They had asked me to come do a speak at their event. And you know, the the organizer said, You'll probably just be on stage about 45 minutes. Would you be able to take somebody on stage with you and like do what you do? It's kind of like a magic trick almost. Almost discover their why and build on all their messaging and marketing. And I said, Yeah, I'll do that. So I did that. And after I was done with this first gentleman, and he goes back to his seat, the guy raises, Hey, can I go next? 14 hours later, I'm still on stage bringing one person after another, the whole day. They changed their entire schedule to do this over and over. And I took, I don't know how many, probably 25 people through this.
SPEAKER_02Incredible.
SPEAKER_00But about halfway through the day, this one gal, this attorney, raises her hand. She goes, Hey, uh, Gary, how many whys are there? I was like, God, I never thought of that. I don't know. And so I started keeping track of them. And the same nine kept coming up over and over and over. And I cannot tell you the actual day. It was kind of like a God thing. I can't tell you when I knew there were nine, but suddenly I knew there were nine. And this, and it's held true now today, and this has been 17 years later. The nine are the first why is the why of contribute, to contribute to a greater cause, add value, have an impact on the lives of others. The second why is to create relationships based upon trust, to be the trusted source, to be the one that others can count on. If I can trust you and you can trust me, sky's the limit. But if you break their trust, you'll probably never get it back. The third why is make sense, to make sense out of things, especially if complex or complicated. These are great problem solvers. The fourth why, which is my why, is to find a better way and share it. We're always looking to improve things and push things forward. The fifth why is right way, to do things the right way in order to get results, structure, process, systems, people. The sixth why is challenge, the kind of the opposite of that, to challenge the status quo, think differently, push limits, think outside the box. The um seventh why is mastery, to dive in deep, seek, uh look for the little things, the nuances that make the big difference. These are the people that take the simple and make it complex. The eighth why is clarify, which is to make things crystal clear and understandable first for themselves and then for others. There's these are people that ask a whole lot of questions. And the la questions, and the last why is your why, which actually is the most rare. Really? Which is simplify to take the complex and make it simple, break it down to its fewest steps, uh, make it easier for people to understand, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah. No, I know. I was I love actually that was kind of like my later question, but now that you brought it up, I'm just kind of curious with mine. Because you know, it was like, yeah, my why was simplify, how the right way, and what was trust. Now okay, so when you look at my dive into that for you. Yeah, I want to I wanted that because when you look at my life, my work through that lens, what does that combination tell you? And what are the potential blind spots of someone wired like me?
SPEAKER_00Okay, so let's let's um there's nine whys, and all of us have all of them. One of them is more dominant than the rest, and that's the one that becomes your why. So in your case, it's the why of simplify. Take the complex and break it down to its simplest form. Why is it important for things to be simple?
SPEAKER_02You know, because for me, that's what makes sense. It's like saves time, more time for your family, uh, less stress. Let's simplify, let's enjoy. So for me, and I think, you know, I see my mom at a young age and they make these crazy elaborate um dinners and have to use every play and everything. And I'm like, well, why can't we just simplify so we don't have so much like dishes and and just even looking at uh how I do things, I just I want it done quickly. And how can I get there and simplify, you know, not cut corners, but like, how can this be much easier? And even come back to the simplicity of your own health, come back to just learning how to breathe, right? So that it's it just makes a lot of sense for me because yeah, I'm always thinking, why do we need to complicate things?
SPEAKER_00Yes, exactly. And it when it's simple, everybody can do it. Right? Let's break it down to the one, two, three things we're gonna do, the one, two things we're gonna work on. What's that one thing that's gonna make the biggest impact? You're not you're not gonna give me 15 things to do, you're gonna give me a couple of things that if you just do this, it will work, right? Because how you go about doing that is by finding the right way to get results, the structure, the process, the systems, the things, if you just follow it, it will work. Because ultimately, you want to be that trusted source, you want the relationship to be about trust. If you tell me something, you want it to be the truth, you want it to have worked, you want to have seen it work. Does that feel right? Yes, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. So you want it simple, you want there to be structure around it, and you want it to create trust to be the truth.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, no, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_00And that's why it's really important for you to for your audience to know that about you, because that's what your show is, that's everything you talk about, everything you teach, everything you're gonna tell them is gonna be simple, it's gonna be proven, and it's gonna be the truth.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna say the truth seeker, you know, and and uh a lot of it is coming back to simple things that we've kind of forgotten, you know, where uh we need to simplify and learn how to breathe again, the slowness, just uh normalize that so we can live, you know, healthier, be more in alignment. Because here's what I noticed that when we're out in alignment and spiraling in life, it's much harder. Life is less fulfilling, it's much harder. So finding your why is incredibly important. And I often feel with breath work, I'm realigning you to your heart. Not what everybody else wanted you to do, uh, not what fear is wanting you to do and keeping you stuck, right? I've done that myself. I I've created this illusion that I'm completely stuck in this marriage, even though I knew it was causing me harm physically, mentally, my children. But leaving, I was like, oh, it's like I'm giving up. And there's always hope. Like there's so much mental uh mind games that happen during that time, but you know deep down what's pulling you. It's pulling you. Oh, you know, and um so yes, it does very much make sense for me.
SPEAKER_00So you asked me what was it that made me make the change? So I had developed this process that um now when um for and for the listeners, uh Melissa Sue took the uh I eventually I was able to turn it into a software program that allows you to discover your why, how, and what uh in about eight minutes. And it'll build your personal message for you. So the previous thinking about trying to find your why was you're gonna have to go sit in a dark cave for a week and meditate, or you're gonna have to walk by yourself through Portugal or Spain and try to figure it out, or you're gonna journal, or you know, all these different ways to try to find your why. I was able to find a better way and then do it so many times that I was able to see it and then turn it into a software tool that allows you to do it accurately, quickly, um, over and over and over. So that's what Melissa Sue took. But at that time in my practice, all I had was a converse way to figure it out with a conversation. But it gave me so much energy to help people find their why that I knew it was something that I was meant to do.
SPEAKER_02I love that. See, right there. If it gives you energy instead of sucking away the energy, like you said, when you were at the point where dentistry, at one point, it fulfilled you, but there was a point where it was sucking the energy out of your relationships, yourself, your health. So this is an important point where you're like, oh, this is actually providing me with so much light, so much energy. So I love you pointed that on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, dentistry felt like I was slowly dying. This was giving me lots of energy, and I knew that I could have an even bigger impact by helping people find a better way to understand themselves by knowing their why, how, and what. So I was doing both now. So imagine now I'm working with, you know, hundreds of people every month helping them find their why, along with being a dentist, along with being a dad, along with all the other things that I was doing, coaching and everything else. And I had a lot on my plate. But what gave me the most energy was helping people find their why. And so I knew that's the direction I wanted to go, but I didn't, I couldn't make that choice. I couldn't leave the life that I'd built to do something that I didn't know about. So I was with some friends at this event called Zozobra for a buddy's 45th birthday party in Santa Fe. Za Zobra is kind of like a burning man type thing, but it's more of a show. They burn this huge puppet, uh, and you're supposed to let your years, that year's problems go and on to the next year kind of thing. So we we ate and drank a little bit too much, and the next day I wake up with a headache. So I take a couple Advil, go back to sleep, no big deal. One of the Advil didn't dissolve and it lodged in my GI tract and it burnt a hole right where there was an artery. And so I start bleeding internally and I don't know it. Can't feel it, but I'm just feeling really crummy. And so Santa Fe is about an hour from Albuquerque, so I drive all the way back, actually went to the gym, tried to work it off, was feeling worse and worse. And when I finally got home, I just started throwing up blood and a lot of blood. Blood's kind of coming out everywhere, and obviously knew that wasn't good. So I go to the ER, and it's a very busy weekend, a holiday weekend, and they made me wait 11 hours. Wow. And so I'm just getting sick in the lot in the you know, in the ER. And by the time they finally admit me, my blood pressure is 60 over 30, and I've lost half of my blood. And so um now I'm in a private, not in a private room because it's such a busy weekend, and I get up to use the restroom uh and I lock the door behind me because I not in a private room, and it wasn't a good idea because as soon as I lock the door, I pass out and I hit my face on the sink and and I'm knocked out on the ground.
SPEAKER_01Oh scary.
SPEAKER_00And I'm bleeding everywhere. So luckily I wake up, I don't know how long I was there, but I wake up and there's blood all over, and I push the door open and I pass out again. And so luckily somebody finds me. Next thing I know, I'm in this bed, they've cut all my clothes off. I have the two pads on me, they had to revive me off to surgery to try to get to the bleed. So they, you know, use a scope and they they couldn't get to it where it was located. It was kind of around this corner and they couldn't get to it with the scope. So they decided just to wait. And while they're waiting, they do a CAT scan so they could pump all this dye into me and see if I'm still bleeding. Well, while while they pump the dye into me, um, it wasn't in my arm right, and so they blow out my blood arm, the blood vessel in my arm, and my arm starts filling up with blood clots.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00So now they do an ultrasound, and the doctor comes in and says, Look, the blood clots are growing into your lungs. And if we don't stop the blood clots, you're gonna die. But if we try to stop the blood clots, we can't get to the bleed. So you're gonna die. I said, Well, what are we gonna do? He says, I don't know. I don't know what to do. Which is not a very good answer to hear. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And right then, wait a minute, you've got your my life into your hands.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and so right then my phone rings, and it's a buddy of mine who's a cardiologist at the hospital. I play golf with, and he said, Hey, Gary, I didn't even know you were in here. Um, but I don't like what they're gonna do. So I I'm gonna monitor, I'm gonna take over. Ultimately, what happened is I I was in the ICU for nine days. A lot of crazy stuff happens to you in the ICU. I know you've been there, but I don't know if you've ever been there as a patient. It's a whole different experience um being a patient in the ICU. In the hospital I was at, you know, they don't have showers in the bathrooms on the ICU floor. You know why that is?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00Most people don't make it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_00And that's where I am. And so it's it's not a great uh scenario, but ultimately what happened is um they one evening I had to go to bed with um an ivy of heparin to stop the blood clots and hope I didn't bleed. And that's actually what happened. And so um then they realized they could treat me with blood thinners, and finally I get out. And when I get out, a lot of crazy stuff happens. You know, every every bad thing that could happen to you in the ICU happened to me, blood infections, being knocked out, hitting my head. I could go on and on.
SPEAKER_02Infection and blood.
SPEAKER_00Wow, that's interesting. Yeah, a lot of stuff happened to me. But ultimately, I'm able to get back to my practice. Weeks later, I get back to my practice, and one of my patients who's in his mid-80s takes me aside and he said, Hey, Gary, you know, uh, you got a second chance on life here. He said, When you get to be my age and you look back on your time here on earth, are you gonna be glad you stayed a dentist? Or are you gonna wish that you'd taken this why thing to the world?
SPEAKER_02Wow, I see. Those are the little angels, like that cardiologist, and those are little angel winks, is what I say. They come into you to plant these little, hey, let's get back on track.
SPEAKER_00And I said, I'm gonna wish that I'd taken this why thing to the world. And he said, Well, then you know what you need to do. And so that's when I walked away from my practice. And I didn't know how I was gonna do anything with this, the why. I didn't even have, all I had was a process, but I knew how valuable it was. I didn't know anything about speaking on stages, building software, um, doing internet marketing, having social media. I knew nothing about any of this stuff. And have I made a lot of mistakes? Yes, I've made a lot of mistakes, a lot of expensive mistakes. Was has it been easier? Would it have been easier for me to just stay a dentist? For sure. I already had it figured out, already working, you know, only working three days a week, already making great money, all the all the stuff I already had. Should could have just wrote it out. But doing what you're meant to do has been so fulfilling. I have had unlimited energy for doing this every single day, and it's now been about seven years. And I do it all day long. I did it all. And you look healthy.
SPEAKER_02I mean, your health too. Your health, you came back from all of that because that was a lot, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that all came back. Um, best decision I could have made.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't miss when I sold my practice and walked out the door, I haven't been back once.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You did you feel sort of like peace? Like, okay, I'm gonna be okay. Like this felt good. There was a peace. I I always tell people that if you're in the right, you make that hard decision. If right after it feels peaceful, it's the right, you know, the right way. And I always, you know, with your story, I find that I connect the dot a lot with people's story. And here's what I might, you talk about simplify. I'm like, don't wait till the whispers are so loud. So I do hear that often. God's knocking to get you, he give you the gift of of providing this eight-minute, nine-minute test that can give you your wife, your life purpose and get on to be fully in your gifts that you came here to do, right? So imagine a world that we are all in our divine gifts, that we were meant to be here. There'd be so much more love, so much more peace, uh, vitality. And but he was knocking. He, you know, he's giving you all these. He's like, look, this is working. This is giving you, but you weren't listening. So he's like, okay, fine. I'm gonna give you something that you're almost gonna die. So that you finally make that decision. And I see that constantly in stories being shared to me. Is that it takes getting a heart attack, the near-death experience of like, well, why do we need those? Why do we need that kind of hard thing in our face? And sometimes we all need to learn the hard way, you know? And uh I I play now this game of life, like I don't want to learn this hard way. So yeah, I may pivot sometimes, like, oh, oh, okay. But get back into the alignment. And it takes a lot of practicing learning to read your body as it's it's calling you one direction. Are we listening? You know, you were being called to move that that way because it is truly a gift, what you've created. And uh, we'll leave it under, you know, the the show notes and how people can reach and do this, because that is what I'm hoping people get out of this. Is is that if you're truly feeling uh stuck and living out of alignment and you're kind of figuring out, well, what it what are my gifts? Well, you know, and how your tests can can get people back into their divine guidance, is what I call it, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you beat me to the punch because I was gonna what I was gonna tell you was at that point in my life, there were I wasn't in alignment with many different things. And I it felt like have do you remember the I think it was T Mobile or no T Mobile or Verizon commercials where it's like, Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Remember they're walking along, can you hear me now? And I felt like that was God tapping me on the shoulder saying, Can you hear me now? Yes. Because right right before that, you know, sports is a big part of my life and um racket sports and golf and whatnot. And I tore my rotator cuff on my right arm and I couldn't use it for like two years. And it was kind of like, Can you hear me now? I'm like, no, I got this. I I got this. How about if I give you a really bad headache? Can you hear me now? No, I got it. I got it. Let me just take a little ad bill. I got this. Let me cause a little bleed there for you. Can you hear me now? I was like, no, I got this. I still got it. I'm in control. I got it. Not until you're gonna die if we don't treat you, you're gonna die if we do treat you, did I say, I don't got this?
SPEAKER_02I know, but not everybody makes it out, like my husband, right? So it is so imperative that you listen because I do say that, oh, you broke a toe, you broke this. God's calling you in for something. Like now I know when I get sick, I'm like, oh, okay, what have I done? Not almost like guilt, but I just know I shouldn't be getting sick. Do I need to slow down? What's calling me in? What's going on? Right. And I have to be real with myself. And that's hard sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So let's go back to you. I want to use you as an example because you you brought up something. Um, why is this why thing important, right? Why is this why? Why why does it matter if you know your why or not? And how can it help you? So, you know, if we think back to your why, we talked about was to simplify, your how was to do things the right way, and your what was to create relationships based upon trust. So let's say that Melissa Sue, that you you we put you in a place, let's say you work for me, and I put you in a place where you it's very complex, there's no structure around it, it's very haphazard, and people don't really trust you very much. How's that gonna work for you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, then that's not gonna work. I don't like disorganization.
SPEAKER_00And let's say we put you there for a year. How's that gonna work out?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I wouldn't feel safe. Like at that, I wouldn't feel safe in my body when I see kind of someone I'm trying to trust in my business or be in alignment, but they're fully uh not organized, not on top of it. And I'm like, wait, okay, I don't like that. It for me, I'm like, I stopped trusting, you know, what they're capable of.
SPEAKER_00And and so yeah, I I now let's say we put you there for five years because you can't leave, because you've got two kids at home, you got all these expenses, you got school payments coming up, you got car payments, you got house payments, you got to save for college, you can't leave. How's that gonna work out for you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I know. I I I mean, that truth is kind of if I did five days a week of dental hygiene, I wouldn't, I would feel very stuck, you know. This is not as fulfilling. It is now when I do it part-time and do this kind of work. But if I'm stuck in something I'm not, it would have a ripple effect like it did for you. You know, how I show up at home with my friendships, and I'd feel almost dead inside, you know? And so yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now let's change that. Well, well, ultimately, what would happen is you'll start to think there's something wrong with me. What is wrong with me? Why can't I be like these other people? Why can't I like this? And you start to question yourself and you start to have you break down in other areas, right? Maybe you meditate. Medicaid, maybe you know, need to see a counselor, maybe you need all these things can happen to you. But now let's say we we we put you, we switched you over to a place where you get to take the complex and simplify it. You get to create structure around it, and people come to you because they trust you. How would that work for you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'd love it. Well, because I love seeing people uh expand and then know their gifts and come within and live life with vitality, let go of any limited beliefs. Like I do, for me, that's uh gives it so fulfilling for me when I can make a difference, right? Uh, where they're willing to listen to what I have to say and how they can implement that into their life and now live a life of more vitality, health, and and and it doesn't have to be complicated, you know, it doesn't have to be a whole bunch of different protocols. Actually, my gut god blueprint is exactly that. It's a it's a 12-week program, but it's so simple, it seems so silly, like the breath work, the affirmations, the uh journaling, it the calm, like calming your nervous system. Those are simple little tacks to ask for gratitude, but gosh, bringing that in, that light in every day to shift your perspective uh changes, it has a ripple effect to what you attract in your life. And so, yeah, so I I mean, I think that gives back so much to me when I see someone living where they're healthier, they're happier.
SPEAKER_00Right. So if we put you, if what you choose to do with your life allows you to live your why, how, and what, you will love what you do. You will have passion for what you do. And passion is the fuel that gives you the energy to pursue your dream. Without passion, you quit. Without passion, you give up. With passion, you persevere. So that's why it's so important for you to A, know what your why, how, and what are, and B, live in alignment with it. Pick a path, pick a career, pick a direction, pick people that allow you to live that, then you will love it. If you don't, you can still do it, but you'll run out of energy. You'll give up. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER_02Well, that makes so much sense. Yeah, that's so clear because it's true. It's like what gives so much energy. Like I always saw, you know, I've saw my husband grow his business. I saw my mom uh grow her resorts and uh bed and breakfast, but it became like where they had no life. So I think growing up, I was like, I actually never wanted to be an entrepreneur and now I am, but I'm also want it to be simple, it doesn't take my whole life, you know? And I want to be have time to be present with my family. I want a good balance, you know, but still have uh the ability to go on on trips and vacation and have our home and and things like that to be able to provide, but not suck the whole energy out of me, right? Where I have nothing left for my family, because I saw that for you know, parents, uh, my husband, and I was like, well, that's not a life I want to live.
SPEAKER_00So if we were to break this, let's simplify this all the way down to just four words. So we take everything we've been talking about, we can simplify it to four words, and these are the four words. Who first, then what? Who are you first? Then what direction do you want to go? Then what's your passion? What's your purpose? What's your message? What's your marketing? All of that comes from knowing who you are first. Does that make sense now?
SPEAKER_02Make sense, yeah. Which I tell people all the time get to learn you. You know, if you're going through a divorce, grief, I mean, get to, I always say that, you know, even before you start dating, get to know who you are first so you don't attract the same patterns, you know.
SPEAKER_00But think about that for a minute. People can't answer that question. Get to know you. They, how am I going to answer that? It's like find your passion. Uh yeah, thanks, mom and dad. Uh, how do I do that? What do you mean, find my passion? Well, I don't know how you're supposed to do it, but but go do it. So when you give that, that's it. You're hitting the nail on the head there, because that was my challenge. Yeah, find your why. Go find your why, and then all this other stuff will make a lot more sense to you. Well, how do I do that? Well, I don't know how you do it, but go do it. Go sit in a dark cave for a while or go do some journal, go whatever. Not very helpful. And that's why I said there's got to be a way to figure this out. So there's got to be a way to figure out who you are by knowing your why, how, and what. So if all you do is find your why, your how, and your what, it'll give you the words, the language. What's missing with figure out who you are is the language to be able to do it. And that's what the YOS Discovery, my tool, does for you. That's all I really figured out was the language to talk about yourself in a way that's real and authentic and simple. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER_02That makes sense. That makes sense. So, I mean, I feel like, okay, we probably wouldn't needed that before we were 40 years old. You know, and like, you know, do you have younger generation? Like, this would be important for them, like you said, that teenage, that 16-year-old, that 20-year-old to know themselves, know their why. So then later on, they're a bit more. I think this would be so beneficial for our youth, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yes. The younger you are, when you figure out who you are, the longer the runway you have to be who you were meant to be. So if you wait till you're 50, 60 years old to figure out who you are, your runway becomes a lot shorter. The youngest you will ever be is today. That's why it's so important to figure it out now, whatever age you are. So, yes, we're doing a lot of work with high schools, we're doing a lot of work with college age.
SPEAKER_02I like that.
SPEAKER_00Because how are you supposed to pick your college that you want to go to? How are you supposed to be able to pick the career that you want? How are you supposed to pick the person that you're gonna spend the rest of your life with? Right.
SPEAKER_02And because there's so much outside noise too, like you said, your brother was pulling you one way. And I know same for me when I was deciding, oh, I probably should leave, or when I wanted to be a naturopath, I was being pulled and you have people had fears like you live in Wasilla, nobody believes in naturopathic work, you know. But it it it's like it quiets the noise, right? It quiets the noise of everybody else, what they think you should be doing. And I think that's so important because you're right, so many youth are being pulled one way or another because their parents, like, well, you should be doing this. You should go, you know, I don't know, you know, whatever the parents think is be best for for them, for their kids. And and uh then God keeps knocking at them to go a different direction. So it gets confusing. So I think uh you're you're doing very important work, and I, you know, love to support that and and love to share it, and I will with this podcast, of course, but I think it's so important because, like you said, when you're not in alignment, then God keeps knocking. God keeps knocking.
SPEAKER_00There's a very big difference between sort of kind of thinking that maybe you might know your why and actually knowing it and being able to say it. You don't know it if you can't say it. So when you can say it, then you know it, then you can live it, then you can use it. And that's what's so critical about it. Your confidence level goes up. I know, I know what I was put here to do. Your why, how, and what is what you were put on earth to do. You were put here, Melissa Sue, to simplify the complex, to bring structure and predictability, and to be that trusted guide for the people that are looking for your help. That's what you were put here to do. And if you do that, you're gonna love it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Actually, you know, because that's why breath is always coming back. As simple as breath work is, and I it's finding it's actually because I like to go to all these different health conferences. I'm like, I love learning like you. I love continuing to learn about health and the body. But when I'm out at these conferences, like for uh the health optimize, I go to peptide ones, I go all this stuff, I come back and go, okay, that's a lot of information, but they all come back to what when I hear these doctors talk about is the nervous system, is that the body can't heal. We can't, we can't put you on all these protocols until you are in the parasympathetic. And we are living, and so what fixes that? Breath work. And as easy, so it was clear to me after I go to all these conferences. I'm like, okay, I need to continue this gift. And I felt it the minute I took my training for breath work. It was, I felt it in my whole body. Okay, this is what God wants me to give back to the community. And it is a simple tool. And it is before all these long lines, it gets really overwhelming for people. Okay, I've got I've got to eat what? No gluten, no this, no that, you know. Oh, do I have parasites? Do I have this? And it gets really overwhelming. But I I feel we can live if our nervous system be calm and finds safety, we can heal ourselves. We have the power to heal and we can be in that in that state. So that is the simplify. So it makes a lot of sense to me uh that that's mine. And I think maybe growing up a little bit chaotic and in the noise, I just wanted everything to just be more peaceful, more you know, simpler. And why does it have to be so hard? And then it really doesn't.
SPEAKER_00And again, but you if if you get to do that, which you are now, you will have unlimited energy for it. And if you have unlimited energy for what you're doing, you're gonna pass everybody else who's doing the same thing because they are just doing it. You love it, yeah. And it's your it's what you were put here to do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So just like you said, if what you're doing is what you were put here to do, doesn't get any better than that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, exactly. That's how I came about with the it's interesting, but when I was speaking at the Texas Dental Association in May, before I was practicing my talk, I'm like, gosh, I gotta be able to gift them something. Because at the end of my talk, I do a 10-minute breath work for the whole room for them to feel it, how it changes your physiology. I came about the calm chair system where I pre-recorded breath work. There are only two, three minutes breath work with meditation kind of visualization and frequency music for calming your nervous system, so then the patient can listen to that in the dental chair or in the waiting room. But also, because I want to give back to the providers to realize before they start the day, in between patients, and I'm not asking you for an extra time, you have team meetings in the morning, do it as a group or after your work. It's just two, three minutes, you know. And I always say when you're washing your hands in between patients, just there's a few breath techniques that will help your body's physiology. And so that's, you know, that I keep bringing that in in different professions because there's an importance we've kind of forgotten to slow down and breathe. But uh there was there was one question I didn't want to forget to ask because, you know, because I, you know, I, you know, women of faith and spirituality, I think, is the big umbrella in life when we're fully in alignment with our our gifts that we're being here. And this is why I love what you do. But where does God or faith fit into your understanding of purpose? Like I know I could tell now hearing your story, I can almost see this answer a little bit better. God was definitely wanted you to create this program and simplify it for people so they can find it. Because maybe God was getting really mad at us. We're taking really long time to get back in alignment. So it was definitely God given. I could see that, how you explain how it came about. But I'm just curious, uh, yeah, how how you see that in people now knowing their purpose, how it was definitely this program blends in faith alignment.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I so I believe that God is the one that gave you your why, how, and what. And most people don't see it, it's like invisible until it isn't. Part of your journey is to figure that out. So the younger we can help people figure that out, the longer they have to do what they were meant to do, live the life they were meant to live, connect with the people they were meant to connect with. And so I didn't create their why, how, and what. It's already there. It just needs to be uncovered. You don't need to go find your why. It's already in you. God already put it in you. It's been there all along. You just have to uncover it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we have to remember.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then uncover it so that you can use it. Because it was given to you as a gift, it was given to you to give you unlimited energy, to help you find your path, to help you make decisions, to help you understand yourself, understand the people around you, to be a better leader, to be a better follower, to do what you do even better when it comes from the perspective of who you are. And so uh here's an analogy that that might be helpful. And do you remember back to the Apple commercials where you would see, I'm a Mac, I'm a PC. Remember the I'm a Mac, I'm a PC? Yes. Right? So the one kind of nerdy guy in the suit would come out and say, Oh, I'm a PC, and then the kind of cool hip guy that's kind of creative would come out and he would say, I I'm a I'm a Mac. And it illustrated, you know, the big difference between the two computers. Right? Um, but if you think about it, they're basically the same thing. They both have screens, they both have keyboards, they both have processors, they both have cameras, they both have all the same stuff. But what is it that makes a Mac different than a PC? Right? It's the operating system. It's the operating system. So if you treat a Mac like a PC, you're gonna be very frustrated. If you treat a PC like a Mac, you're gonna be very frustrated. Humans have an operating system that's already inside them, already installed. But most never take the time to figure out what it is. And so they rely on hope. I hope I picked the right path, I hope I picked the right person, I hope I picked a right career, I hope, I hope, I hope. But what if you started first with figuring out who you are, what is your operating system, so that it would make all the other decisions, all the other things you have to do so much easier. God put the operating system in you already. You're either gonna take the time to figure it out early or you're gonna wait until it's very late.
SPEAKER_02So, what's the early, what's the youngest age that you know of taking these tests?
SPEAKER_00Eight years old is the youngest we've had.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay, I can't wait. Okay, now my 10 and 12 year old, I want them to take this. How do you implement? So somebody now listening is like, okay, I really want to take this test. Like, how do they how do they find you? How does it work?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just go to whyinstitute.com, WHY Institute.com. We'll put a link in the bottom. And in fact, for everybody on your show that listens to this, I'll give them the why for free.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00So it's not free on the website. Um, there's the why, and then there's the YOS, the why operating system. But I'll give you the why for free. And that may be as far as you want to go to know your why. But if you want to add the rest, you can. And it's still not expensive. It's very inexpensive to do it. It's only $97 to get everything.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So the YOS will continue how you can implement it. Is that what you're doing?
SPEAKER_00You can implement it, it'll add your how and your what and build your message for you, and then all the tools on how to implement it.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Okay, that's a great deal. If you could just find your purpose in that short amount of time, uh, I mean, that's a big gift that you're giving the audience as well, just to find out their why that quiz. And then $99 is not very much. People pay a lot of mentors and uh therapists, a lot more.
SPEAKER_00I had a guy on my podcast last week. He said he spent $60,000 in a year of meeting with this guy every month to try to find his why. And then it only takes eight minutes to take it. So in eight minutes, uh, he said, I found more than in the $60,000 I spent trying to figure this out. And he's a very brilliant man. I mean, he's read 10,000 books and on and on and on.
SPEAKER_02But um, so and does it change? I think I've asked you this before. So I was like, Oh, maybe I should retake it and see if that's changed. But you're like, oh no, that doesn't change.
SPEAKER_00You don't need to, you know, you take it once, it's what you've been doing your entire life. It's true. And if you ask your parents, they'll probably say, Yeah, uh Melissa. So you've always been trying to simplify the complex. You've always been getting trying to get me to not make things so complex.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So you find it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Let's keep it simple here. But yeah, that makes uh so much sense. Well, I'm so excited to share this with our audience and how important you're such a gift. I love that you finally found, you know, your your purpose, your passion, and bring this. And what's next for you? I mean, is this you just want to grow it out and everybody implements this and and this is good? Like, what's next for you?
SPEAKER_00So, so my vision, here's my vision. My vision is to be the first step in self-awareness. When people are trying to figure out who am I, this is the first step they take. There's a lot of great tools out there, and you've probably taken them Myers, Briggs, Colby, Strengthfinder, Disc, Enneagram. Those are great tools. Those are how you take action. This is why you take action. What's the motivation behind everything that you do?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it should be like almost a senior year in high school. You should uh, you know, or they should implement that. I mean, I should talk my kids' school. I think this is important. This is um really big. And I I wish that for you too.
SPEAKER_00And our goal then, our goal is to impact a billion people in the next 15 years. And and, you know, how am I gonna get there? I don't know, but a lot of people have come forward now and want to be part of this. So imagine if a billion people were clear on who they are and what they were put here to do, and now they're living their passion. Imagine the impact that they can make.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a ripple effect. Yeah, once you're in alignment, it's a ripple effect for for generations to come. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You and I have both experienced both sides of it, not being in alignment and being in alignment.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And I, you know, I don't even, it's obvious what you would prefer, right?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, absolutely. That's the only way I want to go. And that's why some of them are like, okay, don't pivot sometimes, you know. I get so many ideas and I get creative, and then, but then I was like, they always come back, you know, to that breath, implementing that calm chair system, doing breath work in my community, doing for the dental community, and it always comes back to that simple tool.
SPEAKER_00So your messaging will take this a little bit deeper for your audience. So if you're a dentist and you're listening to this and you're wondering, how do I talk about myself that separates me from everyone else who does what I do? If you're a business owner or if you're somebody that's in transition, you're trying to figure out what do I want to do next? How do I how do I tell the world who I am? How do I figure all this stuff out? Well, your why, how, and what is your messaging. So, what you could do is copy your why, how, and what or your or the simple YOS, which is the way to say it, paste it into Chat GPT, take your current website or your current messaging, paste it into Chat GPT, and say, rewrite my homepage messaging so that it's authentic to my simple YOS and will resonate with my ideal client.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I like that. I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna do that. I think it is important for people to know your why, why I created these programs, these systems in place. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But just as important is your how and your what. Why is where you start, don't finish there. Your how and what are just as important.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So your why is why you do what you do. Your how is how you do what you do, the process that you use.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my how is my how is the right way. Okay, the right way, and then. What is trust? So I am, I do feel podcasting. I'm building trust, right? With my books. I build trust. And so that's kind of, you know, I'm I'm being me, all me. And I have all these health experts because I want, you know, truth. I'm a truth seeker and I connect to dots, how God keeps knocking in people's lives. And I truly want people in alignment as well in their gifts. So I think we, you know, there is no coincidence that God placed you to sit right beside me between 500 people. And then, you know, we remain friends. And so there's no coincidence there that I have you on today to share, you know, your gifts and what you're here to do. And I I see it. I already see it. You will be global, billions of people. We need this. Our youth needs this. So then we need to have people, yeah, depression. Depression a lot of times is because they're not feeling they're empty. They're empty inside. They're not feeling passionate about what they're doing. And they don't know. Oh, gosh, I know so many people, I want to just say, hey, you got to do this test today.
SPEAKER_00And I and I would love that. And I would love any help that that you could give. But you you hit on something there that I I want to touch on before we close, because if I'm listening to this and I'm thinking, well, you know, I'm not really sure what I should do. And he's doing this big thing and she's doing this big thing, and I don't feel like I have anything big. I feel like I just don't know. Uh what I'm doing is too small. I want you to think back to where both Melissa Sue and I started. Because where I started was sitting in a friend's lobby of his business trying to help him figure out his why because I was so excited about finding my why that I wanted to help somebody else. And this all started as just a conversation with one person. I never did this to start a business. I didn't wake up one day and said, hey, I'm going to create some software to help people figure out their why. Not how it happened. It started as just a very simple conversation with a friend who was struggling to help them find their why. And now it's grown to, you know, over 400,000 people have taken it, thousands of companies. But it didn't, I didn't know that was coming. That's not what I set out to do. I didn't want another job or another business or another anything. I was a dentist. It started as a conversation, and you don't know where it's gonna go. But if what you choose to do allows you to live your why, how and what, it's amazing where it will go, just like what you're doing. Yeah, you're started as you trying to figure out your own stuff, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for me it was to doing all the healing. I had to just go within and I dove into okay, what do I need to do so I can be the mom that I want to be and you know, and heal. So I the self-realization, getting to know me, I that's what I did. I I worked on myself for, you know, I'm still this is ongoing, but I did a lot after my husband passed, and once I moved here, and I got curious as to okay, how do we get out of the when we're in that dark place? And I came to realize when I, you know, did a lot of breath work and I was like, oh, that tool right there, because I was curious. I'm like, I'll try it all, you know, inner child work, parts work. Um, uh lots. I did equine therapy. I just was really curious. And but if I think back to one tool that was the the gift of breath that really helped me tremendously to get to know me, and now I'm asked to gift that back to people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what I wanted. That that's kind of the whole point. You didn't start on the path to say, hey, I'm gonna start a business helping people do breath work. No, right? No. It was you playing started small and then continues to grow. So the that's the point I really wanted to make is if you're sitting, if you're listening to this thinking, well, I don't have anything big to offer, well, neither did I. Neither did Melissa Sue. It wasn't started as a way to build something big, it just ended up there as it kept continuing to provide value for somebody else. And so, whatever that thing is that's burning inside you, however big or small, figure out your why, how, and what who first. Who are you first? Then figure out what it is you want to do that's in alignment with who you are, and you'll have unlimited passion and energy to bring it as far as you want to take it. That's why it's so important to know who you are.
SPEAKER_02That's powerful. I'm so I feel we can definitely talk for a really long time. I have so many still questions. And this was a powerful episode. And I just thank you for reaching out, you know. And I think those are also God winks. And if for anyone listening, I will put in, you know, Gary said, find your why, that will be free. And if you want to continue on just for $99, then you can implement it and have a program, a system in place for that. But share it with your families, do it all together and be like, oh, what is your why? And come, you know, and look at each other and are you in alignment? I think this is important uh for the world that we live in. We need more people that are not feeling stuck, depressed, anxious. Uh, and it could be because we're out in alignment or God is knocking, right? We're different uh illnesses or things that that close calls to dying, you know. We don't we don't want that. We don't want that. You don't need that loud whisper to come back into alignment. So thank you very much for listening today. I feel it's such a gift to podcast. I really am. I'm like, this is this is for me, but also I get to gift it back to my audience, but I get so much out of it. I do get so much energy, so much love, which each guest, I it's one of my favorite things. I really am, but that's something I won't stop. I'm not stopping doing because I'm learning so much from each guest, and it's such a gift to gift it back to everybody else as well. So thank you very much.
