The Breaking Point Is Where the Healing Starts

We often think of success in terms of titles, money, or status. But for Dr. Arvind Petrie—a respected dentist, business owner, and father—true success took on a much deeper meaning after life threw him some of its hardest punches.

Raised in a household shaped by Eastern and Middle Eastern values, Arvind was taught early on that becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer was the path to success. By age ten, he had already chosen dentistry. He even drew pictures of his dream office—complete with a red Ferrari in the parking lot. He eventually swapped the Ferrari for a red truck, but his drive remained just as strong.

At 29, he did what many only dream of: he bought his first dental practice and a home all in the same month. But within two months, the practice was bankrupt. The stress hit fast and hard—he couldn’t pay his bills, his staff, or even his rent. What he thought was a major win became a crushing blow.

Like many professionals, Arvind realized dental school had prepared him to treat teeth—but not to run a business. There was no playbook for what to do when things fell apart. So, he did the only thing he knew: he worked harder. He added side gigs and pushed through six-day work weeks, determined to provide for his family, even as the pressure built.

Then came the diagnosis that changed everything: cancer at 31. Still, Arvind kept working. He saw patients between chemotherapy treatments, even vomiting in between appointments. Taking time off didn’t feel like an option—not when people depended on him. That mindset, while admirable, came at a high cost.

As his physical health started to recover, his marriage began to break down. He felt alone—even at home—and eventually hit a breaking point. Exhausted and overwhelmed, he attempted to take his own life.

That moment became a turning point. Arvind finally reached out for help. Through therapy, men's groups, coaching, and spiritual growth, he began to rebuild—not just his career, but his sense of self.

Today, Arvind speaks openly about his journey, especially the parts that most professionals hide. He wants others—especially men—to know that struggling doesn’t mean you’re weak. Asking for help takes strength. And healing is possible.

His story is a powerful reminder that behind every polished title and smiling photo is a real person, often carrying heavy burdens. True success isn’t just about what you build—it’s about how you show up for yourself and others, even in the hardest moments.

As Arvind says: “You have a life, you have a soul, and you have a choice.”
